Number of farms
In 1997, Washington County had
approximately 131,000 acres of land devoted to farming, producing
about $55 million per year in net cash returns. The county accounts
for about 5% of farmland in the state and approximately 7.6% of
farm sales. Washington County ranks third in the state in net
sales, behind Marion and Clackamas counties. The number of farms,
acres of farmland and average farm size in the County have all
decreased over the past 30 years.
