Measured in constant dollars, per capita income fell in the 1980s and rose in the 1990s. Over the course of both decades, average wages have risen somewhat in some sectors (agriculture/forestry/fisheries, wholesale trade, finance/ insurance/real estate, services and government), risen significantly in manufacturing, and decreased in other categories (construction, transportation/ communication/utilities and retail trade).
